Travel Survey Editing Application PDF Print E-mail

T-SEA, a Travel-Survey Editing and Analysis system, was developped to support a number of travel surveys being run by I-View Pty Ltd. This system utilised an MS-SQL database for data storage and processing, and provided a browser based interface for geocoding travel destinations and for CATI staff to clarify data with survey participants. An MS-Access application was used for configuration and management of the system. A significant component of this application was the importing and cleansing of over one million records relating to geographic locations and features. As these records came from a variety of sources this required custom data conversion code to cleanse and standardise the data for the geocoding component that THINKronicity developed.

Graphical Reports via Email PDF Print E-mail

InterAcct Solutions needed a quick and cost-effective way to provide graphical reports of their service performance to their customers. Their current system generated plain text reports which were emailed to the customers.
To leverage the investment already made in database queries and email automation, THINKronicity designed an XML data structure as an alternative output format for the existing Oracle queries. These datafiles were then used as input to graphical reports developed by THINKronicity using the freeware LGX Report Studio and Server from LogiXML Inc.  A custom ASP.NET component was also built to allow transformation of the web reports into single MHTML messages for emailing.  This format meant that the customers, who used Microsoft Outlook for reading their email, would see the graphical report in the preview pane.

Line-Printer to PDF Conversion PDF Print E-mail

THINKronicity developed a tool which converts line-printer output files from a software application into PDF files, to improve printing and provide for electronic distribution. The tool handles line-printer output files which rely on fixed width and line-draw characters to represent tables. Written in Python it runs on a server allowing users to send files for conversion. They can then get on with other work while the conversion is performed.
The PDF outputs are automatically enhanced, by:

  • Adding a company logo to each page.
  • Moving the table of contents from the end to the beginning.
  • Adding blank pages to enhance layout.
  • Adding bookmarks for easy on-line viewing.
  • Adding document information.

The tool is readily configured through an XML configuration file.
